Today here in HNC, on the 17/10/18, we’re celebrating Teachers Appreciation Day. Since the word “teacher” is thrown about a lot these days, what should we define a teacher as? An educator, a life coach, a mentor, an evil Grinch who constantly gives homework or all of the above. Then what should we define the teaching profession as? Some say that there’s nothing in comparison, as it is the noblest profession in the world, while others may say, “Study hard and don’t become a teacher.” Is there something that makes a teacher stand out from other professions? If so, then what could it be?

With so many definitions and opinions of a “teacher” out there; we’ll determine our own; by examining the teachers here at Holy Name Convent. Think about our teachers, think about what they’ve sacrificed for our education and co-curricular. Think about the little, meaningful ways they’ve tried to help you through different stages in your life, and think about those memories that made school so much more enjoyable because of something they did. Nothing comes to mind? You clearly weren’t try to think at all, so I’ll help you consider some reasons why to appreciate and be grateful for your teachers on this very special celebration.

First off, what is it like being a teacher? From their perspective, what have they gone through for the students of Holy Name. Well here is the short, general list of things they’ve willingly sacrificed for you:

We can account for our teachers being dedicated to their job. Not only have they made sacrifices for our education, but are committed to making us well-rounded as well; helping and encouraging us to enjoy co-curricular. Even on pre-sporting events; they participate to encourage and build house spirit.

So why should you love, value, respect, and appreciate your teacher?

“The growth and development of people, society and country is solely dependent on the quality of education which can be given by a good teacher. They are called the foundation of our society because they highly contribute in building up our characters, shaping our future and help us to be ideal citizens of the country. We should realize the necessity and how valuable our teachers are to our daily lives and celebrate Teachers’ Day every year to pay them homage for great job done.”

A world without their guidance, is one of catastrophe and chaos, with no order and hardly any guidance available for most, especially the young and upcoming generations. They are in a profession that has great responsibility, in comparison to any and all other jobs. They have a great impact on the growth, development and well-being of the students and nation. Teachers generally become a person with proper vision, knowledge and experience that children can look up to. As kids, we need inspiration and motivation, which we surely get from our teachers. They prepare us to tackle any bad situation life may throw at us, through the knowledge, patience, and wisdom they have gained through their years of experience.

“Teachers are like real potters who, not only give our life a shape, but also enable it to be lit like a lamp forever after dispelling the darkness from all across the world, so that, our nation can be enlightened with lots of bright lamps.” Our teachers especially, have given and put up with so much, that it is impossible for them to be called nothing short of heroes.

The level of dedication and commitment they are proving to us that they have; but coming out to teach under these extraordinary circumstances; which most teachers would protest against teaching as it is not a suitable environment. Yes, the entire school and students are under stress with our current situation, but our teachers have still been coming out and doing so much in order to teach. Besides putting up with the usual “glories” of teaching, such as students refusing to do homework, they have been tucked in crammed quarters, but still come to school everyday in order to finish the syllabus, because “if there’s a job to get done, it will get done one way or another” – a random teacher.

Today, on this extra-extraordinary situation, lets thank our teachers for not giving up on us, and for the level of diligence they are giving to us to ensure we get the best education possible. Do something for your teacher, whether it be ranging from sharing a hug or a simple thank you, to giving them a treat you think appropriate and one that they’ll appreciate. Today, here at HNC, we give thanks, to a blessing and a gift called teachers.
