On Thursday 17th September, 2026, the school day commenced as the entire school body, including our teachers and our auxiliary and ancillary staff, gathered in the Marian Hall to celebrate Holy Mass. As a school, we prepare for Mass a week prior by rehearsing the hymns selected by our Form Six choir members, and are led each day by our Form Six girls as well as our new choir assistant teacher, Ms. Katon. As we welcome our new Form One students, we break down each of the hymns in order to allow everyone to be fully involved in the Mass to come.

In his homily, the celebrant, Fr. Gregory Augustine, reminded us of the importance of having a strong support system, not only through our friends and family, but also through our faith. He encouraged us to remember that God is always there to support and guide us, even during the times when we may not feel His presence. No matter what challenges we face, we can always turn to God for strength, knowing that He is there to help us keep moving forward. Fr. Gregory also urged us to seize the opportunities that are given to us and to make the most of each day. With God’s guidance and support, we should not allow fear or doubt to prevent us from trying our best and making use of the opportunities before us. His homily served as a reminder that we are never truly alone and that, with faith and perseverance, we can continue to face whatever lies ahead.
The homily resonated with staff and students alike, as he directly referenced the Gospel reading and inquired about the opportunities we students have to develop our potential at Holy Name Convent. Our Deputy Headgirl, Caylee Sylvester, highlighted the abundance of extra-curricular activities that we have access to, along with the community service endeavours our school participates in year-round. In a similar way, a Form 1 student shared her experience during the past three weeks, including the friendship and joy she has felt being in the school. These sentiments regarding the school and the many opportunities it provides are not exclusive to these two students. Many of us students can recognise and appreciate the community surrounding Holy Name, and the various staff who contribute significantly to the nurturing environment.

As we step into this new school year, we place all our hopes, goals, and quiet anxieties into God’s hands, knowing that we do not walk this journey alone. May this Holy Mass remind us that true success is found not only in academic achievements, but in how we love, support, and lift up one another as a community. Let us leave this sacred space with open minds ready to learn, compassionate hearts ready to serve, and the constant reassurance of God’s presence guiding our every step.
