“All leaders are learners. The moment you stop learning, you stop leading”- Rick Warren.

On Friday 27th- Sunday 29th September 2024, The Lower Six body engaged in a program designed to mould them into the strong leaders whom they aspire to be.
In an era where effective leadership is more critical than ever, the program aimed to equip students with essential tools and strategies for effective leadership in both academic and professional settings. As your future leaders, the information gathered allowed them to find potential in struggle and transform the world.

Each day featured a lineup of experienced speakers, including successful entrepreneurs, community leaders, and seasoned educators. Each lecturer shared personal anecdotes and insights, emphasizing the importance of communication and ethical decision-making. The presentations allowed students to engage in practical exercises, such as activities centred around cooperation and collaboration. They were also involved in role-playing scenarios, which fostered critical thinking and logical reasoning.

The girls came together to bond as a year group, learning more about and finding good qualities in each other. As they prayed together, worked together and related to each other, their relationships were strengthened and all-rounded support was magnified.
One of the speakers, Ms. Keisha Rochford- Hawkins, highlighted the importance of first impressions which cannot be overstated. Research indicates that people form judgments about others within seconds, often based on non-verbal cues and presentation skills. Whether in a job interview, networking event, or classroom setting, excelling in the practice of presentation can significantly influence how you are perceived. Within this and other discussions, the Lower Sixth Form body learnt how to master the art of empathy, particularly as it pertains to leadership. It was consistently emphasized how working with people involves more than guidance, but also unwavering support, being mindful of their personalities and weaknesses.

As the weekend concluded, attendees left inspired and motivated, armed with a deeper understanding of what it entails to be an effective leader. With a commitment to continuous learning and growth, these students are determined to make a significant impact at school, in their communities and country. On Sunday afternoon, the students ended the weekend by celebrating Mass with their family and friends at the new Sr. Helen Gomes Auditorium where Fr. Gregory Augustine sealed the weekend with a special reminder to not allow our negative desires to separate us from our heavenly father.

The girls deeply enjoyed their experience and are eager to utilize their polished skills to serve you in the future. They would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Khan and Sr. Renée for accompanying them throughout the weekend’s proceedings.
Additionally, a special thank you to their form teachers, Ms. Charles and Ms. Ferguson, who were responsible for the success of the orientation. They worked tirelessly in search of qualified speakers, and with the girls to ensure their attendance and full enjoyment.
May we all find ways to grow every day as “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other”. – John F. Kennedy.
