Earlier this month, on April 23rd and 24th, Trinidad and Tobago was one of 43 countries that competed in 8 categories at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Florida. This team of 14 young women and 3 young men was the first ever national team to participate in these World Championships, and included four current HNC students (Maia Corbie, Tamia Ashley Tuitt, Toni Alexander and Hadassah Bournes) and one who graduated last year (Corissa Bournes).
The team faced many obstacles along the way including funding, injuries and visa issues, but they represented their country with immense spirit and passion. They placed 17th in their division but received warm accolades from the judges and fellow competitors for their efforts, particularly as this was our country’s first ever appearance at this competition.
