The halls of Holy Name Convent buzzed with an exhilarating sense of anticipation on Friday, May 16th, 2025. The usual morning assembly was replaced instead with the promise of a culturally diverse and truly enlightening experience for all students.

The day began with the students being exposed to not only the anthem of Trinidad and Tobago but also the national anthems of France and Spain. Following this opening, Ms. James, the Head of the Languages Department, emphasized the importance of embracing different cultures and highlighted the power of language in fostering global unity.

The event then officially kicked off with the Form One Spanish students, who elegantly strutted onto the stage, each beautifully dressed to represent a Spanish-speaking country.

The wonderful voices of our talented language students soon graced the stage, echoing beautifully through the halls. Sapphire Wong Chong-Achee, Mikali Cooper, and Timiya Oliveri delivered a beautiful rendition of “La Vie En Rose,” captivating the audience with their harmonious performance. Adding to the linguistic display, several students also took to the stage to read poems in french, and despite the language barrier, their intonations and expressive nature translated the message clearly . A particularly touching moment came as a young student beautifully sang the traditional Latin American folk song, “La Llorona,” her voice filling the space with its melody.

The audience was then both informed and impressed by a demonstration of the silent art form of miming. A skill where performers use only body movements, gestures, and facial expressions to tell a story, convey emotions, and create vivid illusions of invisible objects and environments, commanding the stage with their skill.

The undeniable pièce de résistance of the entire presentation was the french play.

A talented cast of form 3 and 4 students captured the emotions and flawlessly mastered the language, delivering their lines with precision. It was truly an engaging experience for all who watched. Nearing the assembly’s end, the vibrant parang group, El Dulce Nombre de Jesus then took the stage, singing two beautiful songs that immediately elicited a hearty applause from the audience.

Adding a delicious touch to the day, French delicacies were also on sale, allowing students to savor authentic treats whilst they reflected on the cultural celebrations.

The grand finale of the day was a lovely dance prepared by the Form Four Spanish class. In the center courtyard, they performed a captivating routine, featuring not only their teacher Miss Forde, but also including our Vice Principal, Sister Renèe, in their performance.
