On Tuesday 26th May, 2026, Holy Name Convent celebrated the Blessed Virgin Mary with the annual May Procession. Students, teachers and the principal and acting vice principal came together as a school community to honour Mary. The current acting Form Four prefects held roles of leadership and the school prepared to start processing into Memorial Park for the start of our ceremony.
To begin, the students lined up in their respective houses, the Form Four acting prefects held the four house flags of Saint Dominic, Saint Catherine, Saint Albert and Saint Rose and the choir led the procession into Memorial Park with praise and worship.
As the choir sang Marian hymns dedicated to Our Blessed Virgin Mary, students from the four houses carried the palanquin with the Blessed Virgin Mary statue decorated with a mixture of white and yellow roses. The school processed around Memorial Park, pausing around its perimeters to pray the holy rosary. At each stop, the school joined together to pray each of the five decades of the Glorious Mysteries.

After the praying of the rosary, the school processed back onto the school compound accompanied by the core choir once again. The entire school stood around the statue of Our Lady of Fatima as flowers bought by students were placed at her feet and finally a crown of flowers was placed on her head.
To conclude the ceremony, the school was addressed by our principal who spoke of our Blessed Mary and prayed a special prayer dedicated to her.
The celebration of May Procession is a great opportunity to remember our Blessed Virgin Mary as the “Queen of May”. Although as Roman Catholics, we do not worship Mary in any way, we still celebrate her as the Mother of God.
