On 20th November, Holy Name Convent’s Parang Group participated in the 26th anniversary of the 2016 Junior Parang Festival entitled “Viva la Paranda”. This year was Holy Name’s 10th year performing in this festival and the girls gave a stunning performance, going up against 13 Secondary Schools in a musical battle. Our girls retained their excellence by ranking in the top 10 of the competition! Ms. Parker lead the group of 17 girls with an upbeat and vibrant performance. The musicians did an outstanding job in producing peppy yet melodic music that grabbed the audience’s attention before the singers started sing. It filled the room with their enthusiasm and cheerful playing. The lead singers of this group, Vivian Wall, Adana Williams and Jenaye St.Louis, sang out their hearts and filled the songs with their passion and love for Parang. Vivian and Jenaye sang ‘Les Vamos’ and Adana sang ‘Recordemos’. Both really hard songs to perform but the girls pulled it off nevertheless and enjoyed themselves to the fullest. I interviewed Jenaye, one of the lead singers, to find out how her experience was being a lead singer for the first time.
“Well, at first I thought I was going to freeze up but it felt very natural. I had to focus on grabbing the judges’ attention with my words and my actions but it felt so natural even for my first time.”
Overall, the girls left behind the spirit of Holy Name Convent which gave a lasting impression to everyone in the room. Once again, they have made their school proud to have the many talents that these girls possess.
¡Seguir difundiendo el espíritu de parang a todo el mundo, las niñas!
